Our Story

DHIJ was formed 1968 by Donald Desfor, Phd., M.R. Hauser, Darius Irani, and Charles John. Dr. Desfor was an English professor, and the other three founding partners were engineers at AirResearch Mfg. Co. a division of the Garrett Corporation. M.R. Hauser retired in 1981, Charles John in 1989 and Darius Irani in 1992 from Garrett Air Research. DHIJ Management company was started as a general partnership that evolved into an LLC. Today, DHIJ Management, LLC. is managed and owned by Charles' and Darius' children Kerbanu and Viraf Pudumjee and Melinda and Steve Derloshon. DHIJ Management, LLC handles the day-to-day operations of managing all DHIJ related investments, partnerships, and all other related assets.

DHIJ’s first purchase was a commercial building in Gardena, California, in 1967. After the first year’s performance, the partners were pleased with the operational results and decided to move forward and expand the partnership holdings. The partners decided to do this by entering the multi-family housing market. The partnership’s first apartment purchase was completed in 1968. Soon after, DHIJ went on to purchase a 64-unit apartment in Gardena, California. The business continued to grow and evolve over the years and eventually resulted in resulting in DHIJ Management Company, LLC being the asset manager for over 5,000 apartment units with an estimated value of one billion dollars. These properties range across 5 states including California, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico and Texas.
